Important tips to know when renting a car in Uganda

There is a demand for car rental services in Uganda because of the large numbers of tourists to the country. Many people rent a car for a variety of reasons, such as visiting various major attractions in Uganda, family visits, business meetings, global or regional political events and conferences. So if you plan to rent a car in Uganda in the near future, there are a few things you should know before you book.

Operates only in East Africa

Most car rental companies in Uganda do not allow vehicles to be driven from East African countries. These are the jurisdictions where most car rental companies are permitted to operate their vehicles. In addition, if you cross the borders of East African countries by car, you have to pay a COMESA fee.

Find out about insurance policies

Car rental companies insure the vehicles they rent to their customers. The types of insurance usually offered are Collision Damage Waiver Cover and Collision Damage Waiver Cover which covers Third Party Liability Insurance. This has some limitations. For example, if you cause an accident and are at fault, you must compensate for the damage. The insurance policy is always stated in the rental contract you receive when you rent a car.

Possess a driver’s license

Uganda is a country where the law applies. By law, anyone who drives a car must have a valid driver’s license. Car rental companies cannot rent a car unless you present a valid original driver’s license. A driver’s license proves that you have the right to drive a car. An international driver’s license is best, but a domestic driver’s license is fine.

Full payment of car rental fee

The car rental fee must be paid in full to the car rental company before departure. Payment can be made in cash or electronically. When you come to the rental car company, we will ask you to pay the fee and hand over the car. In addition, an initial deposit is required at the time of booking as verification. 5.

Minimum driving age in Uganda

The minimum age for driving in Uganda is 18 years old, so car rental companies can only rent a car to a person over the age of 18. You will always be asked to show your ID or passport to prove your age.

Read the rental agreement

Documents must be submitted by the landlord to the tenant. It contains general terms and conditions for car rental. Tenants are encouraged to take a closer look and ask where they didn’t understand. Renter should be aware that violating the terms of this Agreement may result in fines. Please read it and follow each clause carefully.

Traffic rules and regulations

In Uganda, drive on the left side of the road and the speed limit on highways is 80 km/h. Travelers should check with the car rental company for driving rules and regulations.

Miscellaneous expenses

Popular options when renting a car in Uganda include delivery and collection of the vehicle at the desired location of the rental car (airport or hotel). Some car rental companies charge a small fee, such as $50, to pick up and drop off your rental car.
